Game of thrones is one of the biggest television shows to hit our screen. We all know the world of Westeros and have been gripped by the saga of Game of Thrones. Based on the novels by George R R Martin, David Benioff and D.B Weiss bought the books to life.
The televison show is based on the Novels “A song of fire and Ice” this collection of ongoing books includes 5 titles to date with two more in the pipeline. The first book in the collection, which shares the smae name as the televison show, was released in 1996. Collection to date has sold hundreds of thousands of copies (althought nothing like the sales of other titles such as Harry Potter or Pillip Pullman’s His dark Materials) the fan base for the franchiose is massive and the televised version by HBO is racking up massive viewing and series sales figures.
The mass of story lines and characters in this series makes it one of the most popular shows on TV at the moment. With so many characters and storylines going on you can be forgiven for not being able to keep up with all the action, especially as season teoi of the show is now on its 3rd episode in this country. So for everyone who may have fallen behind slightly ans needs a catchup since the end of season 1 this is for you.
The pursuit of the crown is well underway with several factions all looking to take the Iron Throne from Jeoffrey Borrathean who inherited the throne after his father after the mysterious death of his father and then king Robert Borrathean. After Jeoffrey beheaded Nedd Stark, who had learnt that Jeoffrey was not Robert’s son but instead the son of His mother, Cersei Baratheon (A lannister by birth) and her brother Jaime Lannister. Robb Stark now marches to Kings Landing with the newly created title “King of the North” and plans to take Jeoffreys head .
Meanwhile, Robberts sons, Stannios and Renly are both claiming that they belong on the Iron throne and are in the process of amassing vast armies in order to take Kings Landing. House Lannister, lead by Tywin Lannister, meanwhile is engaged in attempting to fend off the invading northern army lead by Robb Stark.
Meanwhile Daenerys Targaryen (Khalessi) is on the Flatlands and has plans to take back her rightfull
throne. House Targaryen were seated on the Iron throne before Robert Borratheons rebellion, making her the rightful heir to the throne. She does however have a trick up her sleeve in the form of three newly born dragons who are under her control.
Sub story lines include Theon Greyjoys’ return to the Iron Islands, where he believes he is the sole heir to his fathers hosue.
Arya, The yongest Stark daughter, is on her way back to Winterfell with the Nights Watch, and at the Wall Jon Snow and the Watch have made a journey beyond the wall to the frozen north.
Too Much to take in? well we are only a few episodes into season two and more characters a twists await as Game of Thrones continues.
